25 Years on Kelebek

Tanil has been living and sailing on Kelebek for 25 years now. Tanil began in New York, sailed westwards through the Panama Canal and I joined him a few years later in Australia.

Most of our time has been spent in the tropics but we've also extended to South Africa, the Mediterranean and New Zealand.

During this time we've seen navigation tools change from sextant and paper charts to satnav and then GPS and electronic charts; cruising yachts have become larger and more elaborate; the number of sailors cruising has increased and spare parts and supplies are now more readily available.

It is also easier now to stay in touch with family and friends through email and internet.

One aspect of cruising hasn't changed though.....

The sun shines equally on everyone in an anchorage, whether the boat is large, small elaborate or simple.

We travel slowly, preferring to live, enjoy, and meet people as we go.
